My apps are set to update, but no update action or notification was forthcoming. The last week of March, however, none of the dozens of country IPs would work. I already began to suspect that perhaps world events (fear of hackers) was a (temporary?) root cause.

Even a week or so before that, the Canada country free VPN option which had always been viable in the past, refused to connect.

Something very odd started happening beginning ~Mar. I have used TunnelBear approx 2x per week in the past year. Dropping my sub and jumping on the NordVPN bandwagon.

In reality, Tunnelbear is not usable for anything streaming, webbrowsing - forget about gaming and in fact I can't think of a single thing you can practically use Tunnelbear for. I've tested it out and though you have to expect some slowdown due to passing through more links in the chain, this is ridiculous. Normal webpages load like it was back in the 28.8K modem days, but I'm on a 1 GB fibre connection. Tunnelbear has become so painfully slow that you can't even use it. Getting on a streaming service somewhere became a matter of trying again and again until you might get lucky and hit an IP which wasn't (yet) blocked. It worked fairly well for a few months after which many content providers got wise to VPNs and started blocking IPs. Initially I, like so many, wanted it to bypass geoblocking.

Put simply, by using TunnelBear you can browse from anywhere with peace of mind knowing that your online activity is more private from hackers, ISPs, and advertisers. In-app purchases available for premium plans, which give you unlimited data.
